That was your first amp? WOW, I had a 15 w that probably costs like $30 separate, lol More than playable.those Matsumoku builds from the 80s were really great guitars, and i wish I still had it, but REALLY wish I still had that amp.Ĭhristmas morning, 1981 or 1982.nobody really remembers which.haha. That was a drastic improvement and I began attending lessons and actually learning because it was actually playable, as gear goes. and at I think 10 or 11 my father bought me a 1980 or 1981 Aria Pro II Cardinal Series 350 and also gave me one of his friends' mid 60s Fender Super Reverb 4x10 combo. I learned to actually fret notes on that, but it was still near impossible to really play much on, especially at my age at the time.

Then, at about 9 or so, she got me a Tiesco Tulip type electric (that she stripped down and painted to resemble EVH's guitar, bless her heart) and a boxy SS amp with 3 knobs and a 10" speaker. But I DID learn the pick-scrape on that one. I did the plucking on that as an elementary school kid, but not really playing. It had a logo with a crown on the headstock that read "Checkmate" I believe it was a Tiesco product.

My mom had an old acoustic with mile high action that was a struggle to play at all to say the least.
